I have had the same thing. I had a central rupture of C5-C6 and had terrible arm and shoulder pain and lost the use of my right arm. It IS possible. If it were me, I would get another opinion from a different neuro. The longer the nerves are pinched, the greater the damage to the nerves. I know it's very depressing, but hang in there. I wouldn't do the epidurals either.That's just prolonging the inevitable. For me, surgery was the only way. Please feel free to contact.
