PLEASE DO NOT GIVE UP!!! As someone who has had fibromalgia for over 20 years (before it was fashionable to have it), I have also run into doctors that think 1.) It's all in your head AND 2.) You are a woman. It can be extremely frustrating when you know you are hurting but no one believes you. I have often felt like I had been run over by an 18 wheeler, backed up, and run over again. Please keep looking for a doctor - preferrably a rhymatologist (spelling not sure)- that can properly help you. I am sorry that I can't refer you to someone in your area, but there has to be someone that can help you. Many times the treatment involves massive doses of steroids which can provide relief, but in my case and others I am familiar with, it is usually only a temporary fix. Please be aware that repeat doses of steriods can have devastating side affects so please ask your doctor to make periodic checks. I cannot prove it, but I believe years of taking steroids made me predisposed to develop two forms of lymphoma. One other you will encounter is weight gain - usually quite substantial - so early on try to watch what you eat and your weight - believe me it is much easier to put on than to take off. There are so many protocols now being available that could help you so don't give up. Also, if you have not tried water exercise, run, don't walk, to your nearest physical therapy group. The water makes it so easy for you to do things you never thought possible and the warm water with whirlpool massage puts you in heaven. Most PT's say you need to participate at least three times per week. It really helps with the pain and makes life so much better. Good luck to you and may God bless you.
