oppositional defiant disorder

sandi

Message 6 of 14 Previous Next

children with odd constantly display extreme hostility and defiance. they argue repeatedly with adults, lose their temper and feel great anger and resentment. they often ignore adult rules and requests, deliberately annoy other people, and blame others for their own mistakes and problems. the disorder is more common in boys than in girls before puberty. between 2 and 16 percent of children display this pattern of behavior. some believe odd is a precursor or milder form of conduct disorder. odd typically begins before the age of 8 and develops gradually over a period of months or years. it typically starts in the home environment but may extend to other settings, such as school. the causal factors in odd remain obscure and there are many different theories on the cause of the disorder - including basic temperment and inappropriate reinforcement strategies used by the parents. hope this helps at least a bit.
