I am 79 years old, and I am in good shape after following a good doctor’s advice when I was 58 years old. My weight at the time was 196 lbs. My cholesterol at the time was 275, and I could not drive a car at night safely. I would fall asleep behind the wheel. I went to a doctor recommended by a friend and after a very thorough examination and sending me to a hospital for glucose tests, he told me that if I would follow his advice I would live long happy after. His advice: 1. completely stay away from sugar and alcohol of any kind 2. exercise (since I was tied to an office chair too much) 3. he did not prescribe any medication for me to take Following his advice I started losing weight rapidly, and I lost 30 pounds within 2-3 years. My cholesterol went down to 75 within that time frame, and it stayed that way. Now, 21 years later I can drive a car at night still, my weight is down to around 160, and my cholesterol is in the 75-80 range. You might want to discuss this with your physician.
