My 72 year old aunt had severe pain in her middle finger tip which progressed to turn blue. In the hospital they didn't know what it was. After 11 days of many tests, she was released and no better than before, in fact her pointer finger tip has now gotten blue. She had heparin in the hospital, then vitamin K injections, then a plasma transfusion. She had blood tests run and we are awaiting all the results. She was told she has a Protein S Deficiency. She was also told to keep her finger up so as to keep the pain down. She has to take pain medication to mask the pain. My question is, has anyone had this problem and if so, where have they gone for help? Her fingers are cold and we are afraid she will loose the two finger tips that are blue. The Doctors have not seen this before. Any help will be appreciated.
