i have been diagnosed with generalized dystonia by a "movement disorder neurological specialist." originally, i was thought to have hemi-dystonia, which only affects 1/2 of the body, until they realized that my entire body is affected. try to find a movement disorder specialist, since most doctors have never even heard of dystonia. i am lucky to live close to the cleveland clinic. if you are close to a large, medical center, you may have some luck there. as i understand it, dystonia can be brought on by trauma. good luck to you and your son.
