my close friend developed PMR after having a Lupron shot to shrink prostate before surgery. Doctor prescribed Dexamethosone (a steroid like prednisone). He took it for about two months, then developed severe hip pain and limping. X-rays and bone scan now show avascular necrosis (death of bone due to lack of blood supply) in both hips. He has now been advised by specialist that both hips will have to be replaced due to use of steroids. This is not uncommon. Please try something else beside Prednisone for inflammation. Taking steroids even for a short time is like playing Russian roulette.
