I recently was diagnosed with a DVT. I had presented to my physician with deep sharp chest pain 2 months prior to my leg symptoms. He worked me up for cardiac conditions but, completely ignored the differential diagnosis of pulmonary embolus. Now that I am a survivor of an embolis (40% fatality rate), I have done some research on the subject an have found that there is an increase in DVT's being reported. From the onset of symptoms to the actual diagnosis I got the sense that the medical community does not consider this condition a life threatening event in a normally healthy individual.
